Chelsea will be aiming to take another step towards the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title when they take on Reading at Kingsmeadow on Sunday evening.
The Blues are a point clear of nearest challengers Arsenal with five games left to play. This weekend, they face a Reading side who are looking to complete an historic league double over them.
Ahead of the match, FAWSL Full-Time have taken a look at the statistics provided by Opta. Here are four facts which relate to Chelsea’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Reading.
December’s defeat was a first for Chelsea
Chelsea’s defeat to Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium back in December was their first-ever against The Royals in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. They’ve not failed to win both home and away games against Reading in a single campaign since 2017/2018 (D2).
Two legends in the dugout
Only Emma Hayes with Chelsea (163) has managed more Barclays FA Women’s Super League games with a single side than Kelly Chambers with Reading (116). Chambers has lost more games to Hayes than she has against any other manager in her Barclays FA Women’s Super League managerial career (8).
A clean sheet record on the line
Chelsea have kept a clean sheet in 11 of their last 12 Barclays FA Women’s Super League home games including in each of the last six. No side has kept a clean sheet in seven consecutive home games in Barclays FA Women’s Super League history. In contrast, Reading’s clean sheet against Chelsea in December was their first in 11 attempts against The Blues.
Opposite records
Chelsea are unbeaten in their last 12 home games in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League (W11 D1) and have lost just once overall since opening day, that loss being against Reading. In contrast, after winning five Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches in a row between November and February, Reading are without a win in their last six in the competition (D2 L4) – none of this season’s teams in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League are currently enduring a longer wait for a win than The Royals.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Reading kicks-off at 6.45pm on Sunday.
