Durham announce sellout for North East derby against Sunderland

Sunday’s North East derby between Durham and Sunderland has now officially sold out meaning that a four-figure attendance will be recorded for the FA Women’s Championship clash.

The game sees Sunderland make the short trip down the A690 for a competitive fixture for the first time since the club returned to the elite game.

Tickets for the match have been selling well in the last few weeks and Durham have reached their 1,000 target with the game now sold out. The Wildcats have already entertained huge crowds at Maiden Castle against Manchester United in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup and against Liverpool in the FA Women’s Championship this season and they are again set to play in-front of a packed out Maiden Castle this weekend.

Durham were victorious in the reverse fixture against Sunderland at The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground back in October. Sunderland held their own for almost an hour before goals from Beth Hepple and Mollie Lambert fired the visiting team to a 2-0 win.

The two sides are separated by eight points going into this weekend’s meeting with Durham in sixth and Sunderland in ninth and both clubs will be looking to end the season strongly.

The FA Women’s Championship fixture between Durham and Sunderland kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
