Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that his side will come up against a West Ham United team this weekend who are capable of challenging the very best teams on their day.
The Hammers could record a first-ever top half finish in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League while they have already smashed their top flight points tally.
Arsenal travel to The Chigwell Construction Stadium knowing that if they better Chelsea’s result against Manchester United, they could nip in and steal the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title on the final day. When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Arsenal boss Eidevall said that beating West Ham United won’t necessarily be easy.
“They are a very competitive team who can put on a display against any team,” Eidevall said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time. “They’ve maybe lacked a little bit of consistency to finish even higher up the table.
“When they perform to their best, they have shown that they are a top quality side and that’s what we are preparing to face on Sunday.”
With the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title up for grabs, you could forgive Arsenal’s players for feeling the nerves but Eidevall went on to say that his players are focused and that they are directing their attention only at West Ham United.
He said “It feels quite relaxed and I feel that the players are very focused on how we are playing and that has been the case since the FA Cup final defeat against Chelsea. That’s where our full focus is, for us to perform against West Ham and that’s the only thing that we can control.”
Should Arsenal put themselves in a position to collect a positive result against West Ham United, the focus will remain on that game until the final whistle with Eidevall claiming that he won’t look at the Chelsea score during the match personally.
“There will be no eyes at all (On Chelsea),” he claimed. “I need my eyes on the West Ham game and our performance. We know that there are some scenarios that will be of interest to us knowing the result. If that happens, we will make sure that the information gets to the bench but apart from that no.”
Arsenal’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at West Ham United kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
