Manchester City winger Hayley Raso says that she is determined to get her hands on the Vitality Women’s FA Cup this afternoon after narrowly missing out with former club Everton in 2020.
The Australian international was a member of an Everton team which took Manchester City to extra-time in The Cityzens’ last Wembley outing before going down 3-1.
Raso returns to Wembley this afternoon with current club Manchester City set to take on Chelsea in the 2022 final and when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the match, the 27-year-old admitted that she is determined to lift the trophy this time.
“I came to this club because I wanted to win trophies,” Raso said. “We did so in the Conti Cup and we’ve got another huge opportunity to do so again at Wembley.
“I fell short in the cup final when I played there a couple of years ago but this time, I am definitely going back to get that trophy.”
Even though Raso was on the losing side in her last Wembley appearance, the player still enjoyed the experience of playing at the national stadium. That game was played behind-closed-doors but this time, Raso will have family in the stadium cheering her on.
She said “It was absolutely amazing, I don’t think I realised how incredible it would be until I was there. My teammates had talked about how big of an occasion it would be and it really was. There were obviously no fans that day but I still thought that it was an unbelievable experience. I am really looking forward to getting back there, having fans and having an atmosphere.
“My dad has actually come over to watch the game, he promised to come and watch if we reached the FA Cup final and he has kept his word. The rest of my family will be watching in the early hours back at home.”
The 2021/2022 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final between Chelsea and Manchester City kicks-off at 2.30pm.
