Defender Filbey to leave Charlton Athletic

Defender Anna Filbey has announced that she is leaving FA Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic this summer.

The 22-year-old has spent one season with The Addicks after joining the club last summer but the player has now opted for a fresh challenge.

Filbey featured in every FA Women’s Championship fixture for Charlton Athletic this season, scoring her only league goal in a 4-0 win at Watford back in October. The defender also made a number of appearances for Karen Hills’ side in the domestic cups. Filbey was a member of a Charlton Athletic team which finished in fifth position in the FA Women’s Championship table in what was their first season as a full-time professional outfit.

Filbey took to her personal Twitter account to announce her departure this morning. She said “After a great season at Charlton, I have decided to leave the club. I would like to thank the staff for all they have done for me, my teammates that I was lucky enough to share the pitch with and lastly, the fans for their continued support throughout.

“I wish Charlton nothing but the best for the future! I’m excited to see what the next step in my career has in store.”

Fibley’s next club is yet to be determined, however, it is thought that the player has several admirers from both north and south of the border.
