Leicester City boss Lydia Bedford has signed a new deal with the club to stay on as first team manager for the next two years.
The Foxes announced the news via their official club website this morning. Bedford initially took on the role until the end of last season but she has now extended her deal until summer 2024.
After Leicester City parted company with promotion-winning manager Jonathan Morgan in November last year, Bedford was appointed on a short term basis with the aim of steering The Foxes to Barclays Women’s Super League survival. The club’s first top flight campaign was a battle but one which Leicester City won with the East Midlands side finishing outside of the relegation zone.
Bedford will now be tasked with building on the club’s foundations in a bid to push them up the Barclays Women’s Super League table this season.
After signing her new deal, Bedford said “I have enjoyed every moment of my time at Leicester so far and I’m grateful to the Club for their continued support and belief in what we’re trying to achieve. This is an exciting place to be right now, as the Club continues its investment in the women’s game. I am looking forward to the season starting and believe we are creating an environment that allows players to thrive.
“I would like to place on record my thanks to Kay Cossington, Sue Campbell and the FA for enabling me to take up the initial opportunity here at Leicester last November and their continued support during such an important step forward in my career.”
With Bedford on board for 2022/2023, the attention now turns to player recruitment with Leicester City in need of strengthening their squad.
