Newly-promoted Barclays Women’s Championship club Southampton have completed the signing of defender Paige Peake according to reports on The Saints’ official club website.
The 19-year-old joins The Saints from their former FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division title rivals Ipswich Town. Peake made 30 appearances in FA Women’s National League competitions for The Tractor Girls in 2021/2022 while she contributed an impressive six goals.
Peake looks like a player who could really blossom into a top talent in the coming years and she will now get a taste of the elite game with new club Southampton.
After completing the capture of Peake, Southampton manager Marieanne Spacey-Cale said “Paige is a player that I’ve admired since playing Ipswich Town last season. She’s a fantastic addition to the squad. She brings set-peice expertise, she’s a strong defender and she reads the game really well. She’ll add absolute value and quality to this squad.”
Peake is the first signing of the summer transfer window at Southampton. The club have retained a large portion of their promotion-winning squad for the upcoming Barclays Women’s Championship season but manager Spacey-Cale will still be keen to add some further second tier experience to her exciting group.
