Swiss keeper Thalmann looking forward to playing in front of ‘crazy’ English fans in Leigh

Switzerland goalkeeper Gaëlle Thalmann says that English fans are both loyal and crazy and she is looking forward to sampling a vibrant atmosphere at the Leigh Sports Village this evening.

La Nati face Portugal in their opening match at the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 at the home of Manchester United Women.

Thalmann took some time out to speak to FAWSL Full-Time about the game earlier this week. She said that she is well-aware of the fanatical fan support in England and she is eager to get a taste of that in Leigh this evening.

“I know from the two Arsenal players in the squad (Noelle Maritz and Lia Wälti) that the fans in England are really loyal, they are really warm-hearted but they are crazy in a positive sense,” Thalmann said.

“I have already witnessed some matches in England myself and played against English teams in the Champions League and I know that it’s always enjoyable to play here.”

Thalmann went on to say that the atmosphere is something that she hopes will make the tournament feel so special.

She said “I hope the atmosphere will be similar to the opening game, it is what I am looking forward to the most at this tournament. It is going to create a lot of good vibes having good atmospheres in the stadiums, I am looking forward to it.”

Switzerland’s opening match against Portugal kicks-off at 5pm.
