Lewes announce departure of physical forward Umotong

Barclays Women’s Championship club Lewes have announced the news that physical forward Ini Umotong is leaving The Dripping Pan and she will take up a new challenge in 2022/2023.

The 28-year-old Nigerian forward has spent a little under 18 months with the Sussex club but her time at Lewes has come to an end.

The Rookettes announced the news this afternoon via a post on their official club Twitter account.

Umotong started her senior career on the South Coast with Portsmouth where she averaged more than a goal a game before joining then-FA Women’s Super League 2 club Oxford United. After more than a year with The Yellows, Umotong joined Brighton & Hove Albion and she was a member of the team which were awarded a top tier licence in 2018. A brief spell with Växjö DFF followed before Umotong joined Lewes last year.

The Barclays Women’s Championship is very much Umotong’s level and she went on to score an impressive nine league goals in 20 outings for The Rookettes, establishing herself as a popular member of the team.

Umotong’s next career move is not yet known but it would come as no surprise to see her terrorising Barclays Women’s Championship defences again throughout the 2022/2023 campaign.
