Birmingham City defender Harris sidelined following knee surgery

Birmingham City have confirmed that defender Martha Harris will spend a period on the sidelines after undergoing knee surgery.

The Blues announced the news via a post on their official club Twitter account this morning.

Harris joined the club in the summer after spending the last four seasons with Barclays Women’s Super League heavyweights Manchester United. The 28-year-old featured in Birmingham City’s opening two matches of the Barclays Women’s Championship season as they collected four points from games against Lewes and Sunderland.

The defender was an absentee from the Birmingham City side which suffered a 3-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic at The Valley on Sunday and the club have today confirmed that Harris has undergone surgery on a knee injury. The severity of the injury is not known, however, the player will spend a period on the sidelines as she rehabilitates.

Harris was certainly missed by Birmingham City as the club slipped to their first defeat in the Barclays Women’s Championship last weekend. The Blues found themselves behind after just five minutes at The Valley before going on to concede two further goals. Darren Carter’s side will be eager to bounce back at the first attempt when they face struggling Coventry United at St Andrew’s on Sunday.
