‘I want to go and win every cup’ – Crystal Palace midfielder Filbey ready for Conti Cup clash

Crystal Palace midfielder Anna Filbey says that she will participate in this season’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup with the aim of lifting the trophy.

This season’s competition begins this weekend with the opening round of matches in the group stage. Crystal Palace travel to Bristol City on Sunday as they contest their first of three group matches. Lewes and Charlton Athletic are the other teams in The Eagles’ group. With Crystal Palace having been drawn in an all-Barclays Women’s Championship group, one second tier club is guaranteed to reach the quarter-finals.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of this weekend’s game at Bristol City, midfielder Filbey said that she goes into every game and every competition looking to win, whilst highlighting that the fixture against The Robins gives Crystal Palace an early insight into another promotion rival.

“It’s a game that we want to win,” Filbey said. “As a player, I want to go and win every cup so I hope we can go out and try to do that.

“Bristol City are always going to be up there, they are a really good footballing side. I guess it is a good chance to get a look at them before we play them in the league and a good chance for them to look at us. It is a game we are looking forward to.”

After suffering their first defeat of the season against Southampton a couple of weeks ago, Crystal Palace bounced back to winning ways against Blackburn Rovers last weekend. Dean Davenport’s side won 3-1 at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium in Bamber Bridge. Filbey said that The Eagles were pleased to return to winning ways and that the team can deal with the added pressure of being expected to regularly win games this season.

She said “We know the expectation is there but we are ready to live up to it. We knew that we didn’t play our best against Southampton and we didn’t perform to our standards.

“We couldn’t wait to get back out there and put it right against Blackburn. I think we did that.”

Crystal Palace’s FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup fixture at Bristol City kicks-off at 3pm on Sunday afternoon.
