Former Arsenal and Chelsea ace Katie Chapman has been entered into the Barclays Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame.
FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official press release from The Football Association this afternoon.
Chapman is best known for winning the Vitality Women’s FA Cup a record number of times. She lifted the trophy on 10 occasions throughout her career, including four times with Arsenal. The midfielder won silverware with all five English clubs which she represented throughout her career. She represented Arsenal and Chelsea in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
On the international stage, Chapman was capped on 94 occasions by England while she scored eight goals. She featured in the England teams which finished as runners-up at UEFA Women’s EURO 2009 and in third place at the FIFA Women’s World Cup Canada 2015.
Following today’s announcement, Vic Akers, former Arsenal Head Coach, and member of the Barclays Women’s Super League Hall of Fame selection panel said: “I’m so pleased that Katie Chapman has been unveiled as the third inductee to the Barclays WSL Hall of Fame for 2022.
“I had the pleasure of working with her when she was at Arsenal and I truly believe she is one of our most underrated players. She could dominate a midfield and her leadership on and off the field was something to admire.
“Watching her as a player was an absolute pleasure and the influence she had on the players around her was remarkable. I’m over the moon that Katie has been recognised for her impact on the women’s game and inducted into the Barclays Women’s Super League Hall of Fame.”
Chapman’s inclusion in the Barclays Women’s Super League’s Hall of Fame concludes the list of 2022 inductees.
