Everton ‘up for the challenge’ against consistent Spurs side says Sørensen

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side are ready to take on a Tottenham Hotspur team who are in good goalscoring form at The Breyer Group Stadium this afternoon.

Spurs won their last match against Brighton & Hove Albion 8-0, their biggest margin of victory in the top flight to date.

Everton will undoubtedly come up against an extremely confident Spurs team this afternoon but manager Sørensen says that his side will be up for the challenge.

“They are pretty consistent,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “If you look back at last weekend’s game, Brighton were in the game a lot of the time, it wasn’t an 8-0 game.

“They were ruthless, they scored from set pieces, they scored from transitions, they scored from shots outside of the box, everything went their way. Will it happen again? I doubt it, it’s probably a one-off.

“They are pretty consistent with their performances, the result can go either way sometimes. It is going to be tough but we will be up for the challenge.”

The Barclays Women’s Super League table is already taking shape with the competition almost being split into three mini-leagues. Sørensen went on to say that he would be pleased to see Everton finish fifth this season above the likes of Spurs, West Ham United and Aston Villa, although there is an awful long way to go.

He said “We would be happy if we could do that (finish fifth) but it is a long season and we are only five games in so let’s see.

“On the day, we can compete against all teams but we can also lose to all teams. It is up to us to be as prepared as we can with the squad, going in the right direction. Let’s look at the table when we are done.”

The Barclays Women’s Super League fixture between Tottenham Hotspur and Everton kicks-off at 2pm.
