New Leicester City boss Kirk bemoans preventable goals in defeat to Arsenal

New Leicester City manager Willie Kirk said that all four goals conceded against Arsenal at The King Power Stadium this afternoon were preventable.

The Foxes went down 4-0 to The Gunners with all four goals coming inside the first 50 minutes of the contest. Leicester City were again breached direct from a corner kick while a couple of the other goals which they conceded may have been viewed as a little soft.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time after the match, Kirk said that he felt that all four goals were preventable.

“I think all of the goals were preventable,” Kirk said. “I think we gave Arsenal their goals very cheaply, that’s the real frustration from the game.

“The plan was to stay in the game as long as possible but we never really gave ourselves a chance. We wanted to get to the last 20 minutes, make those substitutions with the young energy coming on and see if we could take anything. That obviously didn’t go to plan. If we can take away the slackness, we will be ok.”

Leicester City will now look to regroup ahead of what Kirk sees as a big game against West Ham United next time out.

He said “The players need a couple of days off, it has been an emotional couple of days for everybody, staff and players alike. It is never a good time when the outlook around you changes, I think we all need a couple of days off.

“We will have three days of training which will be about improving the players that are here and the week after that will be about building up to the West Ham game which is a game that I think we can take points from.”

Leicester City’s next Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against West Ham United takes place at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday 20 November.
