Chelsea midfielder Harder to miss a significant period with a hamstring injury

Chelsea midfielder Pernille Harder will be sidelined for a significant period after undergoing surgery on a hamstring injury.

The Blues provided an update on Harder’s condition this morning via a post on their official club website.

The 30-year-old sustained the injury whilst on international duty for Denmark earlier this month. Harder was substituted early in the game as Denmark defeated Switzerland 2-1 in Schaffhausen on Friday 11 November. The midfielder withdrew from the Danish squad and swiftly returned to London for a medical assessment.

Harder has been assessed by the Chelsea medical team and the player has already undergone surgery on her hamstring injury. She will now begin her rehabilitation with The Blues indicating that Harder will be sidelined for ‘a significant period’.

Chelsea seem likely to be without Harder for the remainder of their games in the UEFA Women’s Champions League group stage while the player could face a race against time to be fit for The Blues’ huge London derby against Arsenal at The Emirates Stadium after Christmas.

There was one positive on the injury front for Chelsea as they defeated Tottenham Hotspur 3-0 at Stamford Bridge yesterday, forward Fran Kirby returned to the squad after overcoming a recent illness. The player was a second half substitute for The Blues.
