Reading and Liverpool battle out thrilling draw to move away from the relegation zone

Reading and Liverpool have taken another step away from the Barclays Women’s Super League’s relegation zone after playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Select Car Leasing Stadium this evening.

The visitors twice let the lead slip out of their grasp as both sides had to make do with a point in Berkshire.

Liverpool took the lead in the 16th minute when Katie Stengel headed home from a Melissa Lawley cross but Reading would go on to level in first half injury time through Tia Primmer’s looping effort.

Natasha Dowie turned the game completely on its head 18 minutes into the second half when she netted from close range against her former club to put Reading 2-1 up.

Liverpool responded to their setback in the perfect manner and two quick-fire headers from Stengel and Rhiannon Roberts clawed the game back into The Reds’ favour with a little over 15 minutes to go.

Just four days ago, Liverpool came from behind to snatch a point in a 3-3 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion but this time, they were to be on the receiving end as Reading claimed a late leveller. Sanne Troelsgaard Nielsen was in the right place, at the right time to head home and rescue her side a valuable point.

The result sees Reading move four points clear of bottom club Leicester City while Liverpool now have a five-point gap on The Foxes.
