Manchester United and Sheffield United will be hoping to close out 2022 in a positive manner when they meet at The Leigh Sports Village in the group stage of the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup this afternoon.
Neither side can qualify for the competition’s quarter-finals but they will both still want to end the calendar year on a positive note in Leigh.
Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner could welcome Adriana Leon back into the squad following illness. Defender Aoife Mannion may also be named in the matchday squad, although she will play no part in the match. Skinner is expected to make wholesale changes to his starting XI with the likes of Sophie Baggaley, Maria Thorisdóttir, Aïssatou Tounkara, Jade Moore, Vilde Bøe Risa, Lucy Staniforth, Martha Thomas, Rachel Williams and Lucía García potentially coming in.
Sheffield United make the trip to the North West still searching for a replacement for outgoing head coach Neil Redfearn who left his position last month. Luke Turner remains in interim charge of The Blades. Sophie Barker and Sophie Haywood continue to be sidelined but Naomi Hartley and Rhema Lord-Mears could return to the side.
