Manchester United hit double figures against Birkirkara in mid-season friendly

Manchester United recorded an impressive 10-0 victory over Maltese club Birkirkara FC in a mid-season friendly in Paola this evening.

The Barclays Women’s Super League title-hopefuls faced the 2021/2022 Maltese Women’s League champions at the Tony Bezzina Stadium, home of men’s club Hibernians FC. Manchester United were able to relax and enjoy their football as they netted 10 goals without reply.

Marc Skinner’s side were rampant from the off and they established a huge six-goal lead inside the opening 45 minutes. There were braces for Vilde Bøe Risa and Alessia Russo while Lucía García and Grace Clinton were also on target for The Red Devils.

Manchester United were just as dominant in the second half and they added four further goals to their tally through Jade Moore, Nikita Parris, Rachel Williams and Martha Thomas.

Head coach Skinner fielded two very different line-ups for each half with full-back Ona Batlle being the only player present at the start of both halves. The game brought a welcome return to action for defender Aoife Mannion following her recovery from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.

Manchester United return to competitive action in the Barclays Women’s Super League on Sunday 15 January 2023 when Liverpool are the visitors to the Leigh Sports Village.
