Everton youngster Smith joins Wolves on dual-registration basis

Everton midfielder Josie Smith has joined FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division club Wolverhampton Wanderers on a dual-registration basis.

Wolves announced the arrangement on their official club Twitter account ahead of their FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division match against AFC Fylde this afternoon.

Smith is yet to make the senior breakthrough at parent club Everton but she is highly-rated by The Blue Girls and has every chance of making it at first team level, especially given manager Brian Sørensen’s record with developing young players. The young midfielder has been a regular for Everton in the WSL Academy League this season. She has made nine appearances for the Merseyside club, scoring one goal.

It is hoped that the Welsh youth international will benefit from some senior game time in the third tier with high-flying Wolves. The West Midlands club were FA Women’s National League Championship Play-Off Final runners-up last season while Dan McNamara’s side are currently top of the table this term.

After sealing her move to Wolves, Smith went straight into the squad for this afternoon’s fixture against AFC Fylde at the New Bucks Head. The youngster started the match on the bench with Wolves aiming to extend their recent winning run into a tenth game.
