Manchester United goalkeeper Middleton-Patel signs professional deal

Manchester United goalkeeper Safia Middleton-Patel has signed her first professional contract with the Barclays Women’s Super League club.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Red Devils this afternoon.

The 18-year-old keeper joined Manchester United at the age of 15 and she has successfully progressed through the club’s youth ranks. Middleton-Patel is one of the most highly-rated young players to come out of the Manchester United academy system.

The player is yet to make her senior debut for The Red Devils but she has been named amongst the substitutes on a handful of occasions. The youngster also spent time out on loan last season. Middleton-Patel spent a period with second tier club Blackburn Rovers before the keeper briefly linked-up with Leicester City to cover for a short-term injury in their squad.

With Middleton-Patel now having signed on again with Manchester United, she will be aiming to make her debut in the elite game.

After signing her first professional deal with The Red Devils, Middleton-Patel said “I’m over the moon to sign professionally with Manchester United. It’s a surreal moment for me and my family. I have to say a massive thank you to all the staff – everyone has been amazing with me throughout my journey to get here.”

Middleton-Patel could be a member of the Manchester United squad which will travel to Sunderland for a Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round tie this weekend.
