Liverpool announce departure of midfielder Furness

Liverpool have announced the news that midfielder Rachel Furness has left the club by mutual consent.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Reds this morning.

The 34-year-old Northern Ireland international has spent the last three years with Liverpool. The player was an influential member of the team which won the Barclays Women’s Championship title last season, along with promotion back to the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Furness has made 64 appearances for Liverpool throughout her spell on Merseyside, scoring 19 goals. The midfielder was a popular member of The Reds’ squad and she will be missed. Furness’ final appearance in a Liverpool shirt came a week ago as Matt Beard’s side were defeated 1-0 by West Ham United in a FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup quarter-final tie at Prenton Park.

It has been suggested that Furness is set to complete a move to another club. The player is likely to drop into the Barclays Women’s Championship to continue her career.

Furness has enjoyed a 21-year senior playing career to date. Her journey started in the North East with Chester-le-Street and she has gone on to represent the likes of Sunderland, Reading, Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool amongst others.
