Chelsea announce signing of Belgian international goalkeeper Evrard

Chelsea have announced the signing of highly-rated Belgian international goalkeeper Nicky Evrard on a pre-contract agreement.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from The Blues this evening.

Evrard will officially become a Chelsea player on 1 July 2023 when her contract with current club OH Leuven has come to an end.

The 27-year-old made a name for herself whilst representing Belgium at last summer’s UEFA Women’s EURO. Evrard put in some impressive performances, helping her country to reach the quarter-finals against the odds.

At club level, Evrard won the Belgian Women’s Cup with AA Gent before going on to lift the Eredivisie title with FC Twente. The keeper has also represented Sporting Huelva and latest club OH Leuven.

After completing her move to Chelsea, Evrard said “It’s really crazy, dreams do come true. I’m really happy, excited and honoured to play for a big club like Chelsea. I follow the women’s games, I watch the competition in England, and it’s always fun to watch the Chelsea games.

“I hope to bring my performance from the EUROs to here, the big goal is to bring something to the team. Chelsea want to win trophies, that is also my ambition and I want to win a lot at the club.”

Evrard is the first player to agree to join Chelsea for next season.
