Aston Villa will be hoping to cause another Vitality Women’s FA Cup upset when they face Chelsea in a semi-final tie at The Poundland Bescot Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Villans have already dumped Manchester City out of this season’s competition and Carla Ward’s side will now be aiming to stun current trophy holders Chelsea to reach a first Vitality Women’s FA Cup final.
Aston Villa head coach Ward could welcome full-back Sarah Mayling back into the squad with the player having overcome a knee injury. The Villans remain without the services of long-term absentees Meaghan Sergeant, Remi Allen, Natasha Harding and Simone Magill while defender Rachel Corsie will spend a few weeks on the sidelines. Youngster Evie Rabjohn won’t be involved with the player thought to be set to join Manchester United.
Chelsea manager Emma Hayes continues to juggle a number of injuries in her squad. Fran Kirby and Kateřina Svitková remain sidelined with long-term injuries while The Blues are facing something of a defensive crisis with Millie Bright and Kadeisha Buchanan both out of action. Melanie Leupolz has been suffering from a facial injury but should be available for selection while attacker Pernille Harder is nearing fitness following a hamstring injury.
The Vitality Women’s FA Cup semi-final tie between Aston Villa and Chelsea kicks-off at 2.15pm on Sunday afternoon. Limited tickets remain available and can be purchased by clicking here.
