‘We want to bounce back’ – Sørensen hoping for strong Everton performance at Reading

Everton manager Brian Sørensen wants to see a reaction from his side when they travel to the Select Car Leasing Stadium to face Reading this afternoon.

The Blue Girls were defeated 3-2 by then-bottom club Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday evening. After conceding two first half goals, Everton were always chasing the game at Broadfield Stadium.

Everton face another relegation-threatened side this afternoon in the form of Reading and manager Sørensen wants to see a response from his team from the very first whistle.

“We want to bounce back, we weren’t happy with some parts of the game on Wednesday,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference.

“It’s going to be tough because they’re fighting for their lives, so we have to find the motivation. We didn’t really find that in the beginning (against) Brighton, so we spoke about it at half-time then we expressed ourselves better in the second half. We need to bring that expression from the first whistle against Reading.”

Reading have a habit of pushing hard in the second half of matches and that trend was seen in the reverse fixture. Everton won the game 3-2 at Walton Hall Park but two second half goals kept The Royals in the contest until the final whistle. Sørensen wants his side to be in control of the game in the final stages this afternoon.

He said “We want to make sure that we are up with a couple (of goals) going into the last 15 minutes. It was the same when we played them at home in the 3-2 game, they really battled at the end, tried to get players into the box and they got a goal from that.

“We have to be resistant to that, make sure that we are defensively organised and strong and hurt them at the other end of the pitch.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Reading kicks-off at 2pm.
