‘You have to look forward’ – Arsenal’s focus is on the future says Eidevall

Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that his side must look forward as they prepare to return to Barclays Women’s Super League action against Leicester City at the LV Bet Stadium this evening.

The Gunners exited the UEFA Women’s Champions League at the semi-final stage on Monday. The North Londoners suffered a 5-4 aggregate defeat to German club VfL Wolfsburg.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Leicester City game, Eidevall said that his side must look towards their future challenges rather than reflect too much on what has gone.

“We’ve tried our best here this week to say what emotions and feelings we want to carry forward with what can help us to become a stronger team in the future,” Eidevall said. “What do we need to get rid of now to be able to be ready for a first challenge here against Leicester?

“That’s sports and football, you have to look forward. You’re not entitled to anything just because you did something yesterday, what’s important is today. That’s where we need to put 100% of our energy and focus.”

Eidevall recently brought in former Leicester City boss Lydia Bedford to assist him with coaching. Eidevall said that Bedford has been able to offer some insight into Arsenal’s latest opponents, although there has been lots of change in the six months since she left Leicester City.

He said “They’ve basically signed half a team since she left. Of course, she has insights into Leicester but Lydia has good knowledge of all of the teams in the WSL.

“We want to win every game, so as usual, we try and make use of all the knowledge that we have in house and as always, we try to use Lydia’s knowledge.”

Arsenal’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture against Leicester City kicks-off at 7.30pm. Tickets for the match have sold out.
