Manchester City goal machine Khadija Shaw has been named the Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year 2022.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Manchester City this morning.

The 2022 calendar year was a hugely successful one for Shaw who continued to make her mark at Manchester City whilst also shining for the Jamaican national team. The forward helped Manchester City to win the FA Women’s Continental Tyres League Cup while The Cityzens also qualified for Europe and reached the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final. On the international stage, Shaw was a member of a Jamaican side which qualified for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 and finished third in the Concacaf Women’s Championship.

After landing the award for the first time in her career, Shaw said “It’s an unbelievable feeling to be named as Concacaf Women’s Player of the Year, but I couldn’t have done it without my teammates as they’ve played a massive part in this.

“It’s going to go somewhere special so that whenever I wake up, I can look at it straight away.

“The message I have to anybody who has a dream like I did is to keep believing and enjoy the process and journey.

“The journey is ultimately what is going to get you to your destination, so just work hard every day knowing where you want to get to, and no matter what obstacles come your way, you need to keep believing in yourself and doing your best.

“Keep pushing, enjoy the journey and the moment, because there is something great that will come of your hard work in the end.”

Shaw will next be in action for Manchester City when they travel to Liverpool on Sunday. The player is enjoying a record-breaking season in which she has netted 29 goals in 27 matches for The Cityzens in all competitions.
