West Ham United leave Liverpool in deep trouble with Rush Green hammering

Liverpool have returned to the bottom of the FA Women’s Super League table after falling to a 4-2 defeat to West Ham United at Rush Green this afternoon.

Vicky Jepson’s side were 4-0 down before finally playing a part in the match. The Reds’ defeat, combined with Bristol City’s 1-0 victory at Birmingham City, now means that Liverpool have just eight games to save their top flight status.

After a quiet start to the match at Rush Green, West Ham United went ahead in the 25th minute courtesy of a sweet strike from Adriana Leon before Martha Thomas quickly made it 2-0 with a tap in.

Thomas was on target again early in the second half, making it 3-0 with a clever shot on the turn before Liverpool found themselves four goals down with just an hour played when the forward turned provider to tee up Leon to net her second goal of the game.

The visitors capitalised on a defensive mix up to grab a consolation goal, new signing Rachel Furness placed the loose ball into the back of the net before the same player netted again with a looping header at the death to make it 4-2.

The result leaves Liverpool a point adrift at the bottom of the FA Women’s Super League table while they have played a game more than second-bottom side Birmingham City.
