Disrupting Manchester United’s title push ‘an extra incentive’ for Manchester City says Taylor

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor says that disrupting Manchester United’s title push brings an extra incentive to this evening’s derby at the Leigh Sports Village.

The Red Devils are two points behind league leaders Chelsea with two games left to play. This evening’s fixture against Manchester City is ‘must-win’ as the club look to take the title race into the final day.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Manchester City boss Taylor said that disrupting Manchester United’s title charge brings an extra incentive to the game, although it is business as usual for his side.

“Of course it does, there’s no doubt about that,” Taylor said when discussing the added incentive that the game will bring. “I think it’s a really interesting game for us in that sense but that’s not our priority. If we do that, we do that because we are there to win.

“I know that people will look at that for sure and that’s an extra incentive, there’s no doubt about it but for us, we know that it’ll be difficult, it’s a difficult place to go. They’ve had good form this season and they’ve maintained a title challenge.

“Nothing changes for us, we always approach every game to win three points and that doesn’t change.”

Taylor went on to say that it will be very easy to fire up his players for the game. Derby day brings all of the motivation that his side need to put in a strong performance.

He said “I think it’s about using what the game brings. There’s no real need to instigate any fire in their bellies for this one, I think it comes naturally. It is probably about keeping that to a limit where it doesn’t overspill into playing something different to what we potentially know when we are at our very best.

“It is just a case of harnessing it in the right direction I would say.”

Manchester City’s derby fixture at Manchester United kicks-off at 6.45pm this evening.
