Everton midfielder Christiansen to retire

Everton midfielder Izzy Christiansen has made the decision to retire at the end of the current season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Everton this morning.

Christiansen is in her second spell with The Blue Girls after starting out with the club in the early days of her career. The midfielder has also enjoyed spells with Birmingham City, Manchester City and Lyon in her long senior playing career.

The 31-year-old has won every domestic trophy in the English game while her biggest achievement came in France with Lyon where she won the quadruple including the 2018/2019 UEFA Women’s Champions League title.

On the international stage, Christiansen has 31 senior caps for England while she has netted six goals. The midfielder was a SheBelieves Cup winner with the Lionesses in the United States in 2019.

Two players have now had their Everton departures confirmed by the club this week. In addition to Christiansen, Danish international defender Rikke Sevecke is also leaving the Merseyside club this summer when her contract comes to an end.

Christiansen will be hoping to make her final career appearance when Everton take on Manchester City at The Academy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
