‘We need to be ruthless’ – Everton boss Sørensen looks ahead to Manchester City fixture

Everton manager Brian Sørensen says that his side will need to be ruthless when they travel to The Academy Stadium to face Manchester City this weekend.

The Blue Girls will end a successful season with their fixture against The Cityzens. Everton are already assured of a sixth-place finish in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.

Despite being likely to finish in fourth position this season, opponents Manchester City have had some bright moments and Sørensen has called for his own side to be clinical in front of goal this weekend.

“We need to be ruthless to beat them,” Sørensen said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “With the chances that we do create, we need to get it over the goal-line, that’s what we need to add on for the opponents to start to respect us.

“We will finish off all of the good habits of play but they will be super-hungry too to get back on track after last week.

“Being at home last game of the season, it’ll be interesting to see how they attack the game because theoretically, they could still get that third spot if they score a lot of goals against us and if Arsenal were to lose. If it was me, I’d go for it, I’d try to do everything in my power to win as big as possible.

“We will see how they attack the game but for us, it is still the same; to be more clinical when in possession. When they are at their peak, they play the best football in the league.”

Everton are yet to beat a ‘top four’ side this season and Sørensen went on to say that victory at Manchester City would cap-off an excellent campaign.

He said “The only thing we are missing this season is a win against the top four. We will try to do that on Saturday but it’s going to be hard, they have quality, their starting XI is really strong.

“We will see, we will do everything that we can to get a result and we will look to take that into next season.”

Everton’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 2.30pm on Saturday afternoon.
