Sunderland keeper Moan signs professional deal

Sunderland goalkeeper Claudia Moan has signed her first professional contract with the club for the upcoming season.

The Lady Black Cats announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Moan was an ever-present for Sunderland in the Barclays Women’s Championship last season. She was one of just two players to feature in every game for Melanie Reay’s side. Moan kept three clean sheets in 22 league outings for The Lady Black Cats.

After representing the Sunderland Regional Talent Centre (RTC) in her youth, Moan has gone on to make the number one jersey her own in the senior side. She has proved to be a consistent performer and the club have moved quickly to agree professional terms with the player for the upcoming season.

After signing her professional contract, Moan said “I’m buzzing. I can’t wait to be back again for the third season in the Championship. It’s something I’ve always wanted (to sign a professional contract) and for it to be my hometown, it’s even better.”

Moan becomes the second player to sign a full-time professional contract with The Lady Black Cats. Defender Brianna Westrup was the first player to be announced as a full-time member of the squad yesterday.
