Sunderland sign former London City Lionesses midfielder Kitching

Sunderland have completed the signing of former London City Lionesses midfielder Katie Kitching on a one-year deal.

The Lady Black Cats announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this evening.

Kitching joins the Wearside club on a free transfer after leaving former club London City Lionesses last week. It has been confirmed that the player will train with Sunderland on a full-time basis.

The midfielder spent 18 months with former club London City Lionesses. She made 17 appearances for The Pride in the Barclays Women’s Championship. Kitching featured for London City Lionesses in their 3-1 victory over her new club Sunderland at Princes Park back in February.

Kitching is still in the early stages of her career. London City Lionesses was her first professional club after combining football with her studies in the United States and the player will be hoping to develop further with new club Sunderland.

After completing her move to Sunderland, Kitching said “I’m excited to get going. Everything here is great, the facilities, the people so I’m really excited to get started.”

Kitching is Sunderland’s second signing of the summer transfer window. The Wearside club also announced the signing of highly-rated forward Mary McAteer earlier this week.
