West Ham United legend Longhurst joins Charlton Athletic

West Ham United legend Kate Longhurst has completed a move to Barclays Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic.

The Addicks confirmed news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this evening.

Longhurst joins Charlton Athletic on a free transfer after leaving former club West Ham United at the end of last season. The midfielder spent five years with The Hammers in which she made 129 appearances for the club in all competitions. Longhurst helped West Ham United to establish themselves as a full-time professional outfit at the top level of the English game.

After completing her move to Charlton Athletic, Longhurst said “First and foremost I wanted to come to a club that was ambitious. I wanted to come somewhere where I had a genuine chance of getting some game time, but also trying to be a big part of the club and moving forward. I really liked the ideas that Karen (Hills) came across with and just got a really good feel for the club.

“I’ve played in a lot of positions and in a lot of games, so hopefully I can just bring that experience and help some of the younger ones.”

Longhurst is Charlton Athletic head coach Karen Hills’ first signing of the summer transfer window.
