Manchester United defender Mannion signs new deal

Manchester United defender Aoife Mannion has signed a contract extension with the club ahead of the new season.

The Red Devils announced the news via a post on their official club website this morning.

Mannion joined Manchester United in summer 2021 after leaving neighbours Manchester City. The defender has made 17 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League. Mannion’s Manchester United career has been heavily hit by injury with the player spending more than a year out after rupturing her Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), however, she is now back to full fitness. The defender featured for Marc Skinner’s side in the end of season run-in and she generally impressed with her performances.

The Republic of Ireland international will be hoping that her injury frustrations are behind her after signing a new deal at the Leigh Sports Village.

After signing on with The Red Devils again, Mannion said “I’m so delighted to be staying here at United. It was an easy choice for me and I’m really pleased to continue this journey and see where we can go over the next few seasons.”

Mannion follows youngster Alyssa Aherne in signing new terms with Manchester United this summer. Aherne signed a professional contract with The Red Devils back in May.
