Watford have completed the signing of striker Carly Johns on a free transfer after the player recently left Oxford United.
The Golden Girls announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
Johns was the joint-top scorer in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division last season. She netted 15 goals in 22 league outings for former club Oxford United. The Yellows ended last season two points behind eventual league champions Watford in third place. Forward Johns has now opted to follow Watford up to the Barclays Women’s Championship and sign for the club.
Watford have now added nine new faces to their squad since the club sealed their return to the Barclays Women’s Championship at the end of May. Manager Damon Lathrope has added a real mix to his squad this summer with Watford opting to bring in young players on loan, experienced elite players and some gems from the FA Women’s National League. The Hertfordshire club now have 20 senior players on their books ahead of the start of the new season.
Watford have the benefit of a home game to start the new campaign. The Golden Girls face Durham in Wealdstone on Sunday 27 August 2023.
