Bristol City sign former Brighton midfielder Connolly

Bristol City have completed the signing of former Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Megan Connolly on a free transfer.

The Robins announced news of the transfer via a post on their official club website this evening.

Connolly joins Bristol City after leaving former club Brighton & Hove Albion at the end of last season. The Republic of Ireland international spent four-and-a-half years with The Seagulls in which she made 63 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Super League. The player also contributed four league goals.

The midfielder has lots of experience in the top flight and she will be an asset to new club Bristol City as they look to integrate themselves back into the Barclays Women’s Super League following their promotion at the end of last season.

After joining The Robins, Connolly said “It feels great to be here. I spoke with Lauren [Smith] earlier in the summer so it’s really nice to finally be here and finally get going.

“I’ve heard great things about the team and the culture within the group which was a really big thing for me because it can be quite hard to find such strong togetherness. We’re going to be fighting for every result next season so having that is so important.

“I’m going to try my best to be a leader like I showed at Brighton. I always want to be a good team player and an asset to the group to help in whatever way I can and push the others onwards.”

Connolly becomes Bristol City head coach Lauren Smith’s seventh signing of the summer transfer window.
