Manchester United’s summer signing Emma Watson says that her primary target this season is to put her stamp on the Barclays Women’s Super League.
After months of speculation, the 17-year-old joined The Red Devils last month after leaving former club Rangers.
Watson is one of the most exciting young prospects in the Barclays Women’s Super League and she says that this season is all about trying to put her stamp on the league.
“Coming from Rangers, they’re one of the best teams in Scotland and then coming to a club like Manchester United, it’s a huge step,” Watson told the WSL Press Pack. “Obviously, I’m still young and I’m still wanting to learn.
“I’ve still got so much to learn and develop, this season I just want to stamp my mark on the WSL and prove that I’m good enough to be here.”
Watson went on to say that she was attracted to Manchester United after getting a family feel from the club. She is delighted to now join The Red Devils on their journey to the very top of the women’s game.
She said “Manchester United are a top team and they did so well in the WSL last year. They’re going to keep pushing which is exciting.
“They’re relatively new, I think they’ve only been around for five years, so it’s really nice to be on that journey with them and to see where they can go.
“The whole club is all about family and that is something that really enticed me to join.”
Manchester United signed another exciting young player last summer in defender Maya Le Tissier. Watson feels encouraged by Le Tissier’s achievements and she hopes to get her own opportunity to shine.
“Maya is a great example and Marc (Skinner) has put trust in the young players,” Watson said. “Hopefully, I’ll get opportunities and I’ll take them but just training with such high-quality players every day is going to bring me on.”
Manchester United kick-off the new season with a fixture against Aston Villa at Villa Park on Sunday.
