Liverpool looking forward to the challenge of facing champions Chelsea says Beard

Liverpool manager Matt Beard says that his side are looking forward to the challenge of facing champions Chelsea this weekend.

The Reds travel to Stamford Bridge to face The Blues tomorrow afternoon. Liverpool are unbeaten in their three matches in London so far this season.

Playing Chelsea on their own turf is arguably the toughest game of the season for any club but Liverpool boss Beard says that it is a challenge that his side are relishing.

“Chelsea are a world-class side, so it is a tough game,” Beard said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “I think we gave them three tough games last year in the cup and in the league, so we are looking forward to the challenge. We know that it is going to be tough but it is a game that we are relishing.”

Liverpool failed to record a victory on their travels last season but they started the current campaign with a victory at Arsenal before recording hard-working away draws with West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur. Beard believes that his side have evolved and that they are much better equipped for the big challenges this year.

He said “Last year, when we came up, we wanted to test ourselves and learn from these kind of games. I feel that we are in a much better position this year and we are confident that we can get a result against anybody on our day.

“Chelsea have had a long week being in Madrid, so this will be their third game in six days whereas we have had the week to prepare for it. That’s something that could work to our advantage but when you try and second-guess what their XI is going to be, they could name three XIs given the depth of their squad.

“We are looking forward to the challenge.”

Liverpool’s Barclays Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 1.30pm tomorrow afternoon.
