West Ham United manager Rehanne Skinner says that she wants to see her side convert positive performances into points starting with this weekend’s fixture against Everton.
The Hammers welcome the Merseyside club to The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Sunday afternoon. The two sides are currently separated by just four points. Everton are sitting in eighth place on eight points while West Ham United are four points behind in 11th.
Despite losing six of their eight league matches so far, West Ham United have put in some good performances and manager Skinner wants her side to start to convert their efforts into points.
“We just want to try and get points,” Skinner said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “When we’ve had some really good performances, we just want to turn that into an opportunity to get points on the board. There’s been a couple of games where we’ve just given things away at times when we were performing better than the scoreline reflected.
“It’s an important one for us to get points on the board and it’s definitely an opportunity. We’ve got most of our players available which is a positive and the team have worked really well over the international break.
“We are approaching it like we do every other game which is to win. We are keen to get one over the line now based on all of the effort that has been put in and the way that we’ve been playing.”
There are similarities between West Ham United and latest opponents Everton. The Blue Girls have also struggled for consistency, especially on their own turf. Skinner is hoping that her side start the game well and has highlighted defending set plays as an area where The Hammers really need to be switched on.
She said “They’re in and around where we are and they’ve been the same; they’ve had some good results and some not so much. They play a very specific style and the players in there have had some experience doing that with Brian [Sørensen], so you expect them to be fairly cohesive in what they are trying to achieve.
“It’ll be a tough challenge. The way that they progress the ball and can capitalise on certain mistakes has been good. They’re dangerous from set plays, so we have to be aware of that.
“For us, we just want to start as quickly as we possibly can and I don’t think we’ve done that in every single game. That’s something we definitely want to get right.”
