Brighton forward Smith recalled from loan spell by Gotham FC

Brighton & Hove Albion’s on-loan forward Taylor Smith has been recalled by National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Gotham FC ahead of schedule.

The Seagulls announced the news via a post on their official club website last night.

Smith joined Brighton & Hove Albion on loan on Transfer Deadline Day. She was the last player to be signed by former Brighton & Hove Albion head coach Melissa Phillips before her sacking.

In her time at Brighton & Hove Albion, Smith has failed to make any first team appearances. She was named in the matchday squad on one occasion which came in the club’s 4-1 victory at third tier club Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Adobe Women’s FA Cup. With Smith struggling to get minutes in a Brighton & Hove Albion shirt, the decision has now been taken to allow the player to return to NWSL club Gotham.

Smith arrived at Brighton & Hove Albion with a wealth of playing experience. The forward had featured for several clubs in the American game while she had been capped by the United States on 10 occasions at senior level. The move to England failed to work out but the player has more than enough quality to make her mark upon her return to the United States.
