West Ham United midfielder Dagný Brynjarsdóttir has signed a contract extension with the club.
The Hammers announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.
Brynjarsdóttir recently returned from maternity leave and she was named in the West Ham United matchday squad for their final game of the 2023/2024 season against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The midfielder is now back to full fitness after giving birth earlier this year and the club have moved to secure her services for next season.
The Icelandic international has spent the last three-and-a-half years with West Ham United. She has made 65 appearances for the club in all competitions while she has scored 17 goals. Brynjarsdóttir was arguably the club’s top performer prior to her pregnancy.
After agreeing to extend her stay with The Hammers, Brynjarsdóttir said “I’m delighted to be extending my contract at West Ham United.
“West Ham are not just signing me but they are also signing my family and everything that comes with being a mother. I’m happy here, my family are happy here and this Club feels like a family to me.
“I’m extremely grateful to everyone for the support that I’ve received since the birth of my second son and it made my decision very easy.
“I’m already excited for what next season has in store and look forward to helping the team move forwards in the right direction.”
At this stage, it is unknown whether Brynjarsdóttir will resume her role as West Ham United captain in 2024/2025.
