Charlton Athletic sign former West Ham United midfielder Filis

Charlton Athletic have completed the signing of former West Ham United midfielder Mel Filis on a free transfer.

The Addicks announced the news via a post on their official club website this afternoon.

Filis has signed a two-year deal with Charlton Athletic. She returns to the club on a permanent basis following a successful loan spell at The Valley in the second half of last season.

In her temporary spell with Charlton Athletic, Filis made 10 appearances for the club in the Barclays Women’s Championship in which she scored three goals. The player helped the South East Londoners take their promotion bid to the last day of the season.

Filis made a real impact for The Addicks last season and head coach Karen Hills had no hesitation in offering the player a permanent deal.

After securing her Charlton Athletic return, Filis said “The league is very competitive. Playing in the games at the back end of last season was really nice. It was good to be playing to win something and fighting for promotion.

“We came so close, part of me does think we will 100% get it over the line this season and I’m really motivated to help the team to do that.”

Filis becomes Charlton Athletic’s third signing of the summer transfer window.
