Scotland captain Rachel Corsie has joined Birmingham City on a loan deal from National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) club Utah Royals until the end of January according to reports on the Blues’ official website.
The 31-year-old Aberdeen-born centre-back returns to the English game almost six years on from leaving former top flight side Notts County.
It has been reported that Corsie will represent Birmingham City until the end of January 2021 with the player becoming new Blues manager Carla Ward’s second summer signing. The former Sheffield United boss has already signed another Scot in Christie Murray after recently taking up her role at the SportNation.bet Stadium.
Corsie started her career with Aberdeen before moving to Glasgow City. The defender won seven league titles during her time playing north of the border. After spending the 2014 FA Women’s Super League 1 campaign with Notts County, Corsie moved to the United States and won the NWSL Shield with Seattle Reign. The player spent the best part of three years with The Bold before moving to Utah Royals in 2018.
Despite the new Barclays FA Women’s Super League season being a little over a week away, Corsie will not be the last signing at Birmingham City before the big kick-off. Manager Ward is thought to be lining-up more new additions in a bid to rebuild the Blues side following some notable departures during the last 12-15 months.
