Sheffield United’s new head coach Neil Redfearn has made a further addition to his squad ahead of the new FA Women’s Championship season with defender Ali Johnson re-signing for the club according to reports on The Blades’ official website.
The 21-year-old full-back endured an injury-hit 2019/2020 campaign but has signed on again with the club following her return to fitness.
Johnson last appeared for Sheffield United in the FA Women’s Championship in the club’s 5-0 victory over Coventry United at The Butts Park Arena in January but the player is now seemingly ready to return to action ahead of The Blades’ trip to the London City Lionesses tomorrow afternoon.
Upon re-signing for Sheffield United, Johnson told the club’s official media sources “I never really got going last season looking back. I’m a new player and new person all around now. I’ll continue to move forward, knocking down barriers along the way as I’ve already showed in pre-season.
“It’s been overwhelming. The girls and the staff have been so welcoming and it’s like I never left.”
Sheffield United kick-off the 2020/2021 campaign as one of the pre-season favourites for the FA Women’s Championship title. The Blades ran last season’s champions Aston Villa close and it is hard to see them not being right up there again this year.
