Everton forward Simone Magill netted twice and provided an assist as Northern Ireland defeated the Faroe Islands 6-0 in Torshavn this evening in their latest UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifier.
The 25-year-old bagged a goal in each half as Northern Ireland notched their first victory in qualifying at the fifth attempt.
Liverpool attacker Rachel Furness opened the scoring in the 20th minute before Magill soon netted the first of her two strikes. Defender Lauren Wade then netted Northern Ireland’s third goal in an eight-minute spell before Kirsty McGuinness completed the first half scoring with a goal six minutes before the break after being played in by Magill.
Northern Ireland extended their lead 12 minutes into the second half through another Wade goal before Magill completed her brace in second half injury time as Kenny Shiels’ side recorded a 6-0 victory.
Everton forward Magill has been one of Northern Ireland’s stand-out players in UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifying to date with the player having now netted three goals and provided one assist.
Northern Ireland have now collected five points from their five qualifying matches and look unlikely to be playing in the tournament finals in England in a little under two years’ time. Shiels’ side are seven points adrift of group leaders Norway who also have a game in hand.
