Former West Ham United and Coventry United midfielder joins The Gills

Former West Ham United and Coventry United midfielder Dayna Chong has joined FA Women’s National League South club Gillingham Women.

The 24-year-old moves to the Kent club on a free transfer after recently leaving FA Women’s Championship club Coventry United.

Chong represented former club West Ham United during their time playing in the FA Women’s Premier League Southern Division prior to the East Londoners being granted a tier one licence in 2018.

After leaving The Hammers, the midfielder had a spell with Crystal Palace before joining their FA Women’s Championship rivals Coventry United last summer. Chong was fielded by the Warwickshire club on a couple of occasions in last season’s FA Women’s Continental League Cup but was often left warming the bench for Coventry United’s fixtures in the FA Women’s Championship.

With Chong moving towards the middle of her career, it is important that the player begins to get regular game time under her belt again, something that has been lacking since leaving West Ham United. It has today been revealed that Chong will be playing her football in the third tier in the coming months with Gillingham Women having announced her signature via their official club Twitter account.

Chong could make her Gillingham Women debut on Sunday when they travel to Houslow in the FA Women’s National League South Premier Division.
