Former Manchester City forward features for Real Madrid in first El Clásico

Former Manchester City forward Kosovare Asllani played the first 83 minutes of the first-ever women’s El Clásico this afternoon as her Real Madrid side lost 4-0 at home to Barcelona in the Primera División.

The fixture was Real Madrid’s first competitive game since their well-documented takeover of top flight side CD Tacon in July and it proved to be a disappointing afternoon for Asllani and her teammates.

Patricia Guijarro’s 19th-minute strike gave Barcelona a first half lead before an own goal from Real Madrid keeper María Isabel Rodríguez Rivero early in the second half put a certain end to the home side’s hopes of collecting at least a point. Further goals from Lieke Martens and Alexia Putellas capped off a fine display from Barcelona.

Swedish forward Asllani has TUPE transferred over to Real Madrid in the summer after originally joining the club in it’s previous form of CD Tacon in 2019. She had previously been playing her football in her homeland with Linkopings FC after leaving Manchester City in 2017.

During her time at Manchester City, Asllani netted two goals in FA Women’s Super League 1 in her one-and-a-half seasons in the North West. The player lifted the league title with City in 2016 while she also won the FA Women’s Continental Tyres Cup and Women’s FA Cup with the club.

Last season saw Asllani net five goals in 17 league games for CD Tacon in her first campaign in the Spanish top flight and she will be looking to build on that goalscoring form in the Real Madrid era.
