PREVIEW: Chelsea v Manchester City

Barclays FA Women’s Super League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester City face-off at Kingsmeadow this afternoon in what promises to be one of the most exciting games of the season so far.

Both sides have collected seven points from their opening three fixtures in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League, although it was Chelsea who came out on top when the pair last met in the FA Women’s Community Shield at Wembley in August.

Chelsea boss Emma Hayes is expected to make several changes to her side after implementing squad rotation for The Blues’ midweek victory over Arsenal in the FA Women’s Continental League Cup. Hayes made six changes to her starting XI with Maren Mjelde, Melanie Leupolz, Fran Kirby, Erin Cuthbert and Beth England amongst the players who are likely to be being considered for recalls this afternoon.

Gareth Taylor also made six changes to his Manchester City side as they also got their FA Women’s Continental League Cup campaign off to a winning start against Everton. Ellie Roebuck, Gemma Bonner, Sam Mewis, Caroline Weir, Janine Beckie and Ellen White could all be drafted back in at Kingsmeadow while full-back Lucy Bronze could also come into contention. City remain without injured trio Aoife Mannion, Megan Campbell and Lauren Hemp.

The match is scheduled to kick-off at 2.30pm and will be screened live on BT Sport 1 with highlights made available later this afternoon on the FA Player.
