Everton duo join West Ham United midfielder in French squad

Everton pair Maeva Clemaron and Valerie Gauvin have been called up to Corinne Diacre’s French squad alongside West Ham United midfielder Kenza Dali.

Les Bleues take on both North Macedonia and Austria later this month in qualifiers for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.

France take on North Macedonia at the Stade de la Source in Orleans on Friday 23 October before travelling to Wiener Neustadt to face Austria four days later. France currently trail group leaders Austria by three points, although Diacre’s side have played one game less.

Midfielders Clemaron and Dali and forward Gauvin are the only English-based players to be named in the French squad. In-form Everton striker Gauvin is the most experienced player of the trio with 31 senior caps but she was an unused substitute for last month’s UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 qualifiers against North Macedonia and Serbia. West Ham United midfielder Dali has 28 senior caps to her name while Clemaron has five.

The Federation Francaise de Football (FFF) announced Diacre’s 24-player squad via their official Twitter account earlier today.

Qualification for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 is very much in France’s own hands. Diacre’s side have four matches left in their qualifying campaign with two of those fixtures being against group leaders Austria.
