England’s meeting with Norway postponed due to travel restrictions

England are unlikely to play another competitive fixture until 2021 with December’s international friendly against Norway having been postponed.

The Lionesses were due to face Norway at Bramall Lane in Sheffield on Tuesday 1 December but The Football Association have today announced that the game will no longer go ahead due to the difficult travelling conditions facing the visitors as a result of COVID-19.

Phil Neville’s side have not played a competitive match since their 2020 SheBelieves Cup involvement in the United States back in March. The Lionesses were due to take on Germany in an international friendly in Wiesbaden last month but the game was called off four days prior to matchday following a positive COVID-19 test amongst the England backroom staff.

Similar to the arrangements for the September and October international dates, the England squad will still come together at St George’s Park for a training camp at the end of this month. Manager Neville has hinted that a number of young players will again be involved in the senior group.

During the September and October camps, Neville fielded England ‘home’ and ‘away’ teams against each other in inter-squad friendly matches. This could be something which the Lionesses boss may again consider for the upcoming camp.
